There is more than 1 type of burn

There are many potential causes of burns, including but not limited to heat, sunlight, electricity, chemicals and radiation.

Any damage to your body’s tissues requires immediate attention, as this is the best way to give yourself the chance of making a full recovery.

There are three primary types of burns:

  • First-degree burn: This causes damage to the outer layer of the skin
  • Second-degree burn: This causes damage to the outer layer of the skin, as well as the layer that is directly beneath
  • Third-degree burn: This causes damages to the deepest layer of the skin, as well as the tissue beneath it

A burn can cause a variety of problems, including but not limited to scarring, blistering and swelling. In the most serious of cases, it’s possible for a burn injury to result in shock and even death.

The effective treatment of a burn depends largely on the extent of the damage to the body’s tissues. For example, a first-degree burn may be able to be treated at home. However, a third-degree burn will require immediate medical attention.

If you suffer a burn in an accident, such as a motor vehicle crash, you shouldn’t hesitate to seek medical assistance. Even if you think you can treat yourself at home, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Some burns require ongoing treatment, so make sure you know the plan your doctors have in place.

You should also focus on the cause of your accident, as it may be possible to seek compensation from a negligent party.
